U.S. timber production increased by 5.2% in the first quarter of this year

In the first quarter of this year, the United States produced about 9.160 billion board feet (bdft) (about 21.6152 million cubic meters) of softwood softwood, an increase of 5.2% over the same period last year. According to statistics, the three-month output was higher than last year's level. From a regional perspective, this is mainly due to the higher production growth in the southern region of the United States. In the southern part of the United States during this period, softwood production increased by 8.1% to 5.116 billion board feet (approximately 12.074 million cubic meters). In contrast, the U.S. coasts and the U.S. inland areas were lower and slightly higher than the output of the same period last year, which were 2.238 billion board feet (approximately 5,281,100 cubic meters) and 1.128 billion board feet (2,661,900 cubic meters). As a result, the U.S. South’s share of total U.S. sawn softwood production increased by 1.5 percentage points during the current period, reaching 55.9%.

Data from relevant departments in Ottawa, Canada, showed that Canada exported 3.133 billion board feet (approximately 7,393,100 cubic meters) of softwood to the United States in the first quarter, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%. Among them, British Columbia's supply fell by 5.1% to 1.138 billion board feet (2.6854 million cubic meters), and the Quebec factory's export volume fell by 6.6% to 563.7 million board feet (about 1.3302 million cubic meters). It is estimated that Canada’s exports to the United States will fall by more than 20% in the second quarter.
